Wolf Eyes with Aaron Dilloway & Gretchen Gonzalez

Universal Indians with Nate Young

UNIVERSAL EYES is the culmination of UNIVERSAL INDIANS and WOLF EYES. UNIVERSAL INDIANS started in Lansing Michigan in the early shadows of the 90’s, with Gretchen Gonzales (now Gonzales Davidson), Bryan Ramirez, & Johnny “Inzane” Olson. After moving to the Detroit area in the late 90’s, Rammer was replaced by Aaron Dilloway, who along with Nathan Young were already in the throes of primitive electronic global domination that is WOLF EYES. Around the dawn of the 2000’s, Gretchen went full time with the moody & cold stylings of SLUMBER PARTY and after a wild Bowling Green Ohio gig, Olson joined WOLF EYES full time. After some drama that would make even Fleetwood Mac disappear into the shadows of suburbia and toss their EQ into a lonely fire, UNIVERSAL INDIANS appeared to have fate / faded into the packed history book pages of Michigan musical lore. As age and time seem to dust over wounds while magically healing them, the quartet met again in the northern suburbs of Detroit on a brisk spring Sunday in 2018. They hauled modern and ancient instruments into a home studio and just like that: the dream / nightmare had hot blood pumping thru its’ duct-taped sound body once again, as if the missing years were nothing but a minute hurdle. The kings and queen of noise were reunited.

Laetitia Sonami

Discovery narrows, trace contours hint at sensibilities that deepen to become edges, tipping your balance, opening a course for any brave enough to forge on far from beaten paths. Discovering arabesque paths, Laetitia Sonami pilots a bathysphere through fantasmic depths all her own. More than only sound, building her music meant extending her body to entwine, tentacular, through entire oceans. "In ancient times when we peered endlessly into hazy green screens flickering like glow worms, adding a bit of flesh was irresistable" she recalls. Inventing "The Lady's Glove" as early as 1991, Sonami would come to "throw the gauntlet and leave some of the clamour behind" in order "to explore some of its attractive weaknesses...the boundaries of its expression, the pushback on one's intent." Wander your own narrows to join Sonami inside the Peacock Lounge. Don't bother taking a big breath first, there's plenty down there.

Horaflora

Weird Ear Records co-founder Raub Roy first grappled with toothbrush motors, plastic sack subwoofers, and balloon-driven mouthpieces set atop frame-drums to create a sound like crazed baby turtles battling an infinite friction of analog sand. In recent years, his Scy1e project took those same sensibilities into a realm of post-analogue instrumentation, propelling him with newfound speed and buoyancy through corkscrew sines. But what if those worlds were to combine, and crazed jumbo turtles were armed with midi-controlled highspeed corkscrews? What then?! Don't miss this command performance, the return of the future Horaflora!
